This week in maths, Year 3 have been delving into the concept of flexible partitioning. Using manipulatives, the children explored how numbers can be broken apart and rearranged in different ways while always preserving their total value.
By redistributing counters, blocks, and other hands-on materials, the children gained a deeper understanding of place value and number conservation. They were excited to observe that no matter how they partitioned a number, its overall value remained unchanged.
This activity encouraged critical thinking and creativity, as well as giving the children the opportunity to explain their reasoning to one another. Well done to Year 3 for their focus and curiosity in tackling this important concept!
