Our Curriculum

Explore
At Morningside we our proud of our precisely-designed broad and balanced curriculum which not only encompasses national expectations (see below), but is designed to provide pupils with a powerful knowledge base that takes them beyond their everyday experiences, regardless of their background, inspiring them to be advocates of change and their own futures.

Oracy

Explore
At Morningside, we know that great speakers are made not born. With the right teaching & support all pupils can become confident, fluent speakers able to express themselves eloquently in a range of different contexts. At Morningside Primary School, we know that teaching oracy improves academic outcomes, through developing skills to think critically, reason together and have the vocabulary to express one’s knowledge and understanding.

Assessment

Explore
We have developed a curriculum at Morningside which ensures children have a broad range of knowledge, skills and understanding. Above all we try to ensure they enjoy their learning and make progress. Assessing how children progress against the requirements of the National Curriculum informs teacher planning.

Curriculum Maps

Explore
A curriculum map for each subject area shows how the curriculum is taught over the course of an academic year.

Early Years Foundation Stage

Explore
Vision: The overall goal within the Early Years Foundation Stage at Morningside is to create a positive learning environment that enables all children to grow and develop in all areas of the curriculum. We endeavour to provide a stimulating learning experience by creating wonderful indoor and outdoor learning spaces.

Our School Day

Explore
Our school day is organised to provide maximum time for learning across a balanced curriculum.

Homework

Explore
At Morningside, we believe that it is important to reinforce the learning we do in class during the week with practice examples at home.

OPaL (Outdoor Play and Learning)

Explore
OPAL is based on the idea that, as well as learning through good teaching, your children also learn when they play. As 20% of their time in school is playtime, we want to make sure that this amount of time (equivalent to 1.4 years of primary school) is as good as possible.
