Morningside Primary School is a rights respecting school. This means we put the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of everything we do. There are 54 articles in the convention; as a school we promote children’s rights and empower them to become global citizens. The UNCRC recognises that all children around the world are entitled to these rights.
Our Morningside community is learning about our different rights and how we can make sure everybody has equal access to these. As a rights respecting school we make sure that we learn and discuss our rights in assemblies, throughout our curriculum and in all we do through the day.
Every class in the school displays a class charter and every person working in that class signs the charter to agree to these rights and respect them.
We have chosen to focus on the following articles:
We are very pleased to be recognised as a level 1 Rights Respecting School. Read the Morningside Rights Respecting Report – Level 1 from our assessment.
Here is an extract from the letter which we received from our assessor.
Dear Janet,
I have great pleasure in attaching your Level 1 report for RRSA. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the children and adults who have worked together on this special journey. Annie was impressed by the commitment of everyone at Morningside Primary School to ensure that children know and access their rights. We are unable to include everything in our report but we do hope that we have captured the spirit of your school and we look forward to working with you all as you travel on to Level 2.
Maura
