This week in history, Year 3 have been diving into the fascinating topic of the Benin Bronzes, inspired by our recent visit to the British Museum. After learning about the history and cultural significance of these remarkable artefacts, the children prepared for and took part in a lively debate on whether the Benin Bronzes should remain in British museums or be returned to Nigeria.
The debate allowed the children to explore both sides of this complex issue, considering questions of heritage, ownership, and historical context. Through thoughtful discussion and respectful listening, Year 3 practised forming and expressing their own opinions, as well as learning how to understand different perspectives on an important topic.
