Year 6 have been using Cuisenaire rods to represent additive and multiplicative problems. Firstly they looked at different calculations represented by the Cuisenaire rods and identified relationships they could spot. Then they represented different valuations using different coloured rods.
Finally they wrote their own word problems and their partner presented the problem using the Cuisenaire rods. For example: A bowl of fruit contains more apples than oranges and more oranges than bananas.
