This week in Year 2, the children have been learning about representing equal groups using repeated addition expressions. This important skill helps to build their understanding of multiplication as they explore how groups of the same size can be added together.
To make the concept hands-on and engaging, the children used unifix cubes to create equal groups. They worked carefully to ensure each group had the same number of cubes and then matched their groups to the corresponding repeated addition expressions. For example, they discovered how “3 + 3 + 3” represents three groups of three.
This practical approach allowed the children to visualise the connection between repeated addition and equal groups, helping to strengthen their maths skills and confidence.
