Sports Days
We are excited to announce Morningside’s sports days will be taking place during July. Years 1, 2 and 3 will be taking place at London Fields by the cricket area. All other year groups will be onsite at school. Due to minimal spacing on the school site parents are unable to attend.
Reception – Monday 11th July, 10:00 – 11:00.
Years 1, 2 and 3 – Monday 3rd July, 10:00-11:30.
Year 4 – Wednesday 12th July, 10:00-11:00.
Year 5 – Friday 14th July, 10:00-11:00.
Year 6 – Tuesday 18th July, 10:00-11:00.
All children will have lunch at their usual time back at school. Please dress your children in P.E. kit (a white t-shirt, black, grey or navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers) on their sports day. Children will be outside, so please ensure they are wearing sun cream and have a water bottle with them.
Summer Fete
We will be hosting our Summer Fete on Friday 14th July from 3.30 – 4.30pm. We would love to see you all there. There will be a tombola, bouncy castle, face painting, book sale, cake stall, food, ice lollies, hair braiding, a raffle and much more.
We need your help. We are looking for donations for the summer fete. We need lots of prizes for the tombola to make it a great success. We are planning a free dress day on Thursday 6th July. In return for your child dressing in their favourite clothes we are asking for them to donate a prize for the tombola. This could be a candle, chocolates, a bottle of something or anything else you think someone would like to win. All you need to do is send them in with a prize and in free dress.
Hackney Music Festival
This week some classes have been participating in the 2023 Hackney Schools Music and Dance Festival. This has been an opportunity for children in engage in dancing, singing and instrumental performances. All the children involved have showcased their musical skills.
Teacher Strikes
School will be closed on Wednesday July 5th 2023 and Friday July 7th 2023.
The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay and school funding, and not because of any issues at our school. The NEU has demanded a pay increase from the government which is at least in line with inflation and which is fully-funded (meaning that this does not need to come out of a school’s existing budget). If you are entitled free school meals we will be providing lunches for your child/ren to collect from school on both days. A form will be sent to you shortly asking you if you would like a lunch.
Attendance
Good school attendance is one of the main factors in determining your child’s future opportunities in life. Children who are absent from school regularly do less well in achieving their academic potential and have fewer career choices. Hackney Education authority aims for all pupils to attend at least 95% of the school year.
An attendance rate of 95% is generally considered good; this allows for children to miss 9.5 days across the school year. If your child’s attendance falls below 95% due to sickness, no further absences will be authorised, unless you provide medical documentation from either a hospital or your GP to support this absence.
Pupil leave of absence from school
The Amendments in September 2013 to the 2006 school attendance regulations make clear that the Head teacher may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Absence for holidays is not allowed and therefore no parent can demand leave of absence for the purposes of a holiday.
