Anti-Bullying Week
This week in school we celebrated anti-bullying week. This year’s theme is Make Some Noise!
Too often, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. Together, we can make a difference and take a stand against bullying.
We started the week celebrating Odd Sock Day to celebrate our uniqueness. It reminded us that we are all different and was an opportunity to express ourselves.
Throughout Anti-Bullying Week, we had discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. All classes participated in anti-bullying workshops. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 learned about how to be a good friend and speak kindly to others. Year 3 discussed ways we can make a noise about bullying and speak up to support those who are being bullied. Year 4, 5 and 6 thought about how words can be hurtful and they used drama to show ways we can prevent bullying.
Children in Need
Today we helped fundraise for BBC Children in Need by coming to school in our pyjamas. We managed to raise £244 Thank you to everyone who donated and dressed in their pyjamas. By being involved we will be making a huge difference to the children and young people who need us most.
Message from Junior Road Safety officers
British summer time ended in October, and the clocks went back by an hour. That means most of us will be heading home in the dark, especially during the autumn and winter months. The thing is, during this time of year, the school day can start and end in twilight, which makes it even more important to be vigilant on the roads. Did you know that most child road accidents happen in the afternoon and evenings, especially in the autumn and winter when it gets dark earlier in the day?
But, no worries, there are some simple things you can do to make sure you’re visible and other road users can see you, no matter how you get to school or work.
Kench Hill
Year 6 have had an incredible week in Kench Hill. On Monday, we waved goodbye to some very excited year 6 children. Throughout the week they were responsible for making their beds, cooking, washing up and leaving rooms tidy. They have engaged in activities such as orienteering, night walks, shelter building, bouldering, Cluedo, visiting the beach and country walks. A massive thank you to the staff who have given up their week to make this happen. A big well done to all the children who have been incredibly polite, well mannered and on their best behaviour all week.
Is my child too ill for school?
It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they are unwell.
It is fine to send your child to school with a minor cough or common cold. But if they have fever or a high temperature above 38oC, keep them off school until it goes away. If they are unwell for a couple of days, seek GP advice.
Lost property
We have a lot of lost jumpers, coats, hats, scarves and bags in the front office. All of it is unnamed. Please come and have a look if your child is missing any items of clothing. Please can you label all items of clothing with your child’s name, so they can be returned to your child.
Attendance Class of The Week
Each week, we will share the class, who has the highest attendance. This week, we want to celebrate 2M, who achieved 99.1%. A huge well done and keep up the excellent work; it has a great impact on learning and progress. At the end of the half term, the class with the highest attendance will receive a special reward.
