Last Friday, Meg Hillier came to Morningside to see the amazing play offer the children have at break times. She was blown away with the amount of different activities that were available for the children to play with. She commented on how happy and engaged our children were at lunchtime.
This week, we were awarded the Platinum OPaL award. We have worked incredibly hard to create a playground that engages all the children in different ways. They have a fantastic play offer which includes building dens with tarps, chasing bubbles, painting, creating imaginary creatures out of cardboard boxes, playing in the mud kitchen and sand pit and much more.
The assessors said, ‘The children were beaming, showing an impressive understanding of dynamic risk management – both observable in their play and their feedback’.
It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they are unwell.
It is fine to send your child to school with a minor cough or common cold. But if they have fever or a high temperature above 38oC, keep them off school until it goes away. If they are unwell for a couple of days, seek GP advice.
Each week, we will share the class, who has the highest attendance. This week, we want to celebrate 2M, who achieved 100%. A huge well done and keep up the excellent work, it has a great impact on learning and progress. At the end of the half term, the class with the highest attendance will receive a special reward.
We now have a limited number of spaces for the 2 year old nursery, housed in our children’s centre still available. You can watch a video about the Rainbow nursery here: https://morningside.hackney.sch.uk/about-us/about-morningside/childrens-centre/
If you think you may be eligible for 15 hours you can check the criteria here: https://www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/free-childcare-2-year-olds
Paid places are also available and we can now offer a limited number of places which are 2.5 days rather than morning or afternoons for children.
If your child is soon to turn 2, you can register your child for a place for next term. If your child has recently turned 3 and you are not yet eligible for 3 year old funding, you may still be eligible for 2 year old funding this term.
Please call into the children’s centre to arrange a tour or more information, or alternatively call the centre and ask to speak to Simran.
Families who are eligible for free school meals (FSM) need to register to ensure they receive all the benefits they are entitled to. Their schools will then receive pupil premium funding, worth £1,455 to schools for each child. This will give schools more money for activities such as educational trips, booster classes, after-school clubs and more.
Registering will ensure families receive other benefits they may be entitled to, like food vouchers during the holidays or access to the holiday activity fund.
It’s simple to register and confidential. Parents and carers can apply easily via the Hackney Education website.
This school year, all primary school aged children who attend state schools in London will also receive free school meals provided through new funding from the Mayor of London, but families should still register to maximise funding for their child’s school.
Today your child will be coming home with a QR code which will enable to you sign up to your child’s Seesaw account. If you need any help please pop into the office.
