Another week at Morningside, with children getting stuck into their learning and plenty happening both in and out of the classroom.
In Monday’s assembly, we marked World Homeless Day by sharing The Invisible by Tom Percival. This moving story follows Isabel, a little girl whose family is struggling and who begins to feel invisible to the people around her. We talked about how easy it can be to overlook people who are facing difficulties, and how important it is to notice others, show kindness and make everyone feel that they matter.
Our value this week has been Effort, and we explored how making a difference doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes it takes the effort to notice someone, listen to them, include them or take action when we see something that isn’t right. Small acts of care and kindness can make a real difference to someone else’s life.
This week, our class teachers have been meeting with the leadership team to talk about the children in their classes, celebrate the progress they are already making and think carefully about the next steps in their learning. These conversations are an important part of making sure that we know our children well, recognise their achievements and provide the right support and challenge to help every child succeed. It has been lovely to hear about the progress children are making so early in the school year.
Year 2 have also enjoyed a tennis workshop this week, giving them an opportunity to practise their coordination, develop new skills and have a go at something different. A great chance to put our value of Effort into practice, particularly when learning a new skill takes patience and perseverance!
We are also really pleased to see an overall improvement in attendance across the school. Being in school every day makes such a difference, not just to children’s learning but also to their friendships, confidence and sense of belonging. Thank you to all our families for the effort you are making to ensure children attend regularly and arrive on time. We know that mornings aren’t always easy, and we really appreciate your support in helping children make the most of every school day.
At the beginning of the year, we talked about how we are all part of the Morningside story. This week has reminded us that the story isn’t just about the things we achieve, but also about the way we treat one another and the effort we put into making our school a place where everyone belongs. Every small action helps to shape the next chapter.
Have a lovely weekend!

Free Breakfast ClubWe are delighted to now be offering the Government’s free breakfast club at Morningside.
The breakfast club is available from 8:15am, free of charge, for children in Reception to Year 6. It’s a great way to help children start the day positively, enjoy a calm breakfast and get into good morning routines. We do have limited places available for children in Rainbow nursery and in the school nursery too, these are payable at £5 per day.
If you need to drop your child off from 8:00am, this will also be free until December when it will be reviewed by the school governors.
If you would like to apply for a place, please contact the school office. We will then contact you once your place has been approved. This is not because places are limited, but because we need to make sure that we have the correct staffing ratios in place to keep everyone safe.
We look forward to welcoming more of our children to breakfast club!

Thinking About Reception? It might feel like starting Reception is still a long way off, but the Reception application deadline is in early January. If your child will be 4 before 31st August 2027, you can book an individual tour by speaking to the school office or using the link on our website.
You can also join us for a Stay and Play on Thursday 20th October, Thursday 19th November or Thursday 10th December, to find out more about starting reception at Morningside.
As part of our OPaL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme, we are continuing to develop our playground to give children richer, more creative and more adventurous play opportunities.
We have created an Amazon Wishlist with items that would really enhance our play offer. If you would like to support, you can do so by purchasing an item from the list and having it sent directly to school.
There is absolutely no expectation to contribute, but we are very grateful for any support. These small additions make a big difference to children’s play experiences every day.
Attendance this weekThis week, we want to celebrate 3S who have 99.6% attendance . A HUGE congratulations and keep up the excellent work; it has a great impact on learning and progress. You can help your child’s class win the weekly fruit platter by making sure they are at school everyday.
