October has arrived, and there has been plenty happening at Morningside this week.
Our value this week has been Self-Belief. In Monday’s assembly, we marked the start of Black History Month by sharing Look Up! and thinking about having big dreams, being curious about the world and believing in ourselves. We talked about how self-belief doesn’t mean thinking that everything will be easy. It means being prepared to have a go, keep going when something is difficult and believe that we are capable of learning and achieving new things.
6M took their Black History Month learning out into Hackney on a fantastic music walking tour, exploring some of the people, places and stories that have contributed to our local musical history. It was a brilliant opportunity to discover more about the history on our doorstep and to see our local community in a new way.
The first group of Year 6 children took part in Bikeability this week, developing their cycling skills and learning how to ride confidently and safely on the road. They really enjoyed the sessions and showed plenty of self-belief as they tackled new challenges and developed their independence.
Our new School Council also held their first meeting this week, and what a fantastic group of children they are! They arrived full of ideas, enthusiasm and a real determination to make a difference. They are already thinking about what they would like to change and improve, both at Morningside and beyond. We may only be a few weeks into the year, but they are clearly a group who believe they can help to change the world, and we can’t wait to see what they do.
It was lovely to welcome families to our Knit and Natter session too. We clearly have some very talented knitters and crocheters in our community! Thank you to everyone who came along to make, chat and share their skills. These relaxed opportunities to spend time together are an important part of what makes our Morningside community so special.
And finally, we are already looking forward to next week’s PTA Disco! We know the children are excited, and a huge thank you in advance to our PTA and all the volunteers who make events like this possible.
At the beginning of the year, we talked about how every child, family and member of staff has a part to play in our Morningside story. This week that story has been about believing in ourselves, trying something new, discovering more about the community around us and believing that our ideas and actions can make a difference. From learning to cycle safely to our new School Council setting out to change the world, we have seen Self-Belief everywhere.
We can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings. Have a lovely weekend!
We hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter and have a lovely weekend.

Free Breakfast ClubWe are delighted to now be offering the Government’s free breakfast club at Morningside.
The breakfast club is available from 8:15am, free of charge, for children in Reception to Year 6. It’s a great way to help children start the day positively, enjoy a calm breakfast and get into good morning routines. We do have limited places available for children in Rainbow nursery and in the school nursery too, these are payable at £5 per day.
If you need to drop your child off from 8:00am, this will also be free until December when it will be reviewed by the school governors.
If you would like to apply for a place, please contact the school office. We will then contact you once your place has been approved. This is not because places are limited, but because we need to make sure that we have the correct staffing ratios in place to keep everyone safe.
We look forward to welcoming more of our children to breakfast club!

Thinking About Reception? It might feel like starting Reception is still a long way off, but the Reception application deadline is in early January. If your child will be 4 before 31st August 2027, you can book an individual tour by speaking to the school office or using the link on our website.
You can also join us for a Stay and Play on Thursday 20th October, Thursday 19th November or Thursday 10th December, to find out more about starting reception at Morningside.
As part of our OPaL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme, we are continuing to develop our playground to give children richer, more creative and more adventurous play opportunities.
We have created an Amazon Wishlist with items that would really enhance our play offer. If you would like to support, you can do so by purchasing an item from the list and having it sent directly to school.
There is absolutely no expectation to contribute, but we are very grateful for any support. These small additions make a big difference to children’s play experiences every day.
Attendance this weekThis week, we want to celebrate Reception who have 100% attendance . A HUGE congratulations and keep up the excellent work; it has a great impact on learning and progress. You can help your child’s class win the weekly fruit platter by making sure they are at school everyday.
Our school target is 96% attendance this year.
