Summer Fete
A BIG thank you to everyone that attended our summer fete. We didn’t have the weather on our side but that didn’t dampen the summer fete spirit. Thank you to everyone who spent some money. We raised £1, 288. All monies raised are going back into the curriculum to provide enriching experiences for the children. Congratulations to all the winners.
Farewell to our year 6 children
It is time to say goodbye to our fabulous year 6 children. They have had a brilliant year and worked incredibly hard to make excellent progress in their learning. It has been a pleasure getting to know you all and we wish you the very best in the future.
They have had a really enjoyable last two weeks in school. Here are some of their highlights
Year 6 Play Shakespeare Rocks
All the children wowed us with their acting abilities. They remembered their lines and sang beautifully. We were all incredibly impressed with your abilities.
Hackney School of Food
Both classes had a brilliant time at Hackney School of food. They were able to practise their kneading, cutting and slicing skills previously learnt in their design & technology lessons to make a delicious pizza and salad.
Sports Day
Year 6, displayed excellent sportsmanship, effort and attitude during their sports day. The children really enjoyed putting their PE skills to the test.
Year 6 Festival
To celebrate the amazing year, the children were treated to a year 6 festival. They listened and danced to music, enjoyed eating from the chocolate fountain and played lots of games. A perfect way to end their time at Morningside.
Spelling Bee
A big well done to all our Spelling Bee finalists. Excellent spelling all round!

Free School Meals
We are thrilled to share some incredible news with you before the summer holidays begin. We are delighted that the Mayor of London is ensuring all primary school children who attend state schools in London will receive free school meals for the full academic year, starting this September. This means that your child/all children in our school will be entitled to a free nutritious school meal next year.
The Mayor knows families are really struggling with the cost-of-living crisis right now and so has taken the decision to provide funding to expand on the Government’s limited existing Free School Meals offer.
Your child will receive their free school meal automatically but it’s still really important to register them in case they are eligible for extra funding from the Government. This is worth £1,300 per year and helps our school. It’s simple to do and confidential. Further information can be found on https://education.hackney.gov.uk/content/apply-free-school-meals
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to help with any queries.
Play at Morningside
This week, the children have enjoyed playing chess, climbing and the equipment and of course in the mud kitchen.
Attendance
If my child needs to be absent from school, what do I need to do? You should contact their school as early as possible on the first day of absence to explain why. If you do not, your child’s school will contact you on the first morning of their absence to find out why your child is not in school.
What should I do if my child needs a dental or medical appointment in school time? To avoid disruption to your child’s attendance, medical and dental appointments should not be booked during the school day whenever reasonably possible. When they are, you should ask the school in advance for a leave of absence and collect them as close to the time of the appointment as possible and return them to school for the rest of the school day afterwards.
Children can attend school with a mild cold and cough. If your child has asthma, remember they may need their reliever inhaler more often. They should have a spare inhaler and spacer, which they can use when they are at school.
Attendance Class of The Week
Each week, we share the class, who has the highest attendance. This week, we want to celebrate 1S, who had 100% attendance last week. A huge well done and keep up the excellent work, it has a great impact on learning and progress. At the end of the half term, the class with the highest attendance will receive a special reward.
School Uniform
It is expected that children wear the correct school uniform to school each day. Here is a reminder of what they should be wearing. There will be a stall at the summer fete selling cheap uniform.
