Spelling Bee
A huge well done to all of the spelling bee finalists. All finalists were fantastic at learning their year group spelling words. Most year groups went to sudden death, which means they have to spell correctly the words from next year group. All spellers show resilience and confidence when attempting to spell the words. A massive congratulations to the winners.

West African drumming and dance
This term we see the return of the West African drumming and dance workshops which include; playing djembes, singing and dancing. They are working with year 2 and year 6.
The workshops provide children the chance to learn unique and diverse musical skills including West African drums and percussion, folk songs and dances. It provides students with the musicianship skills essential to succeed in learning to play an instrument, and helps to develop their love of music.
They will be performing a concert at the end of the term.
Biodiversity Competition
Last term, two children in 5S won a photo competition for the Wild City biodiversity competition. This meant our school progressed to the next stage of the competition working with Salters’ Institute EDible landscapes to create a new green space in our playground.
Last week, they went to Salters’ Institute to learn more about biodiversity which will support them with their playground designs of a green space that incorporates the 7 layers of a forest garden. They learnt all about soil and the biodiversity needed within soil and how this can affect the surrounding flora, fauna and fungi.
We can’t wait to see their designs and really hope they win so we can have their designs come to life.
Bike Ability
This week year 5 and year 6 children participated in bike ability. Bike ability is a cycle training programme that helps children learn practical skills and understand how to cycle on today’s roads. The children loved the sessions each day and have definitely gained cycle confidence. They enjoyed learning bike skills in the playground and then applying these skills on the road.
Play at Morningside
Thank you to all the families who donated kitchen utensils this week for the playground. Next week we are asking for toys: dolls, prams (even full size old pushchairs), construction, games, puzzles. Please no soft toys.
Don’t forget to bring along your bingo card with your donation so you can get another stamp and be
Many thanks for your support
Punctuality
Please be reminded that all children should be at school by 9am. The gates open at 8:45am and then close promptly at 9.00am. Any latecomers will need to enter the school via the main office where parents will be asked to sign their child in and record the reason for being late.
If your child is late this means they have missed key information that will help them with their learning and help them progress.
Getting to school punctually and every day is an important part of the school day. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child attends school each day and is on time.
Coughs, Colds and Sore Throats
It’s fine to send your child to school with a minor cough, common cold or sore throat. But if they have a fever, keep them off school until the fever goes.
Encourage your child to throw away used tissues and to wash their hands regularly.
Moments matter, attendance counts.
Attendance Class of The Week
Each week, we will share the class, who has the highest attendance. This week, we want to celebrate 2M, who achieved 98.7%. A huge well done and keep up the excellent work; it has a great impact on learning and progress. At the end of the half term, the class with the highest attendance will receive a special reward.
