Last Friday, children from year 3 took part in a very exciting physics workshop, led by the Royal Institute of Science.
The children learnt all about different types of energy stores and had lots of opportunities to see these in action. The fun-filled workshop taught the children about important safety aspects of using energy stores and how they work in our everyday lives. They explored how balloons use gravity and elastic energy to help them float and expand. They also found out about how mixtures of chemicals create heat and movement of objects. In their next physics unit, the children will have some incredible prior knowledge to draw upon.
The sustainability squad are organising an Eco Swap afternoon on Friday 26th January. The aim of the eco swap is to donate any unwanted items of clothing, toys, books or household items and in return you have the opportunity to swap these for something someone else has donated.
How it works:
Where: Bottom hall
When: 3.30pm – 4.00pm
The children love the wonderful play offer we have at Morningside. Sarah and Taylor, our play coordinators, are asking for your help to donate small parts to help develop the play offer and to make sure children have the things they need to build and play with. We are asking for donations over the next 6 weeks of particular things. Each time you donate an item you will receive a stamp on your bingo card (see below). Get 6 stamps to be entered into a draw to receive a voucher.
Please can donations be brought in on Monday mornings when Sarah and Taylor will be by the gates to receive them.

Please be reminded that all children should be at school by 9am. The gates open at 8:45am and then close promptly at 9.00am. Any latecomers will need to enter the school via the main office where parents will be asked to sign their child in and record the reason for being late.
If your child is late this means they have missed key information that will help them with their learning and help them progress.
Getting to school punctually and every day is an important part of the school day. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child attends school each day and is on time.
It’s fine to send your child to school with a minor cough or common cold. But if they have a fever, keep them off school until the fever goes.
Encourage your child to throw away used tissues and to wash their hands regularly.
Moments matter, attendance counts.
Wellbeing at Morningside is a priority. Each week we will be sharing information to support your child’s well being or your own. Below is a link to a questionnaire we would like you to complete so we can improve our well being offer.
We have also added information about well being on our website. Click here to have a look.
Thank you to those families who have stopped driving down Chatham Place at drop off and pick up times. Unfortunately, there are a few families still driving down the road when ‘school streets’ is in operation.
Chatham Place is a designated school street which means vehicles are not permitted to enter the zone during drop off and pick up times unless they have been granted an exemption. The scheme aims to tackle congestion, improve air quality at the school gates, but most importantly makes it easier and safer to walk and cycle to school. We are asking all our parents to respect this scheme and not to use Chatham Place during the restricted times.
The children’s safety is our priority and all adults have a responsibility that the children of our school are kept safe at all times.
All School Streets operate from 8.30am to 9.30am and 3pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday during school term time
Each week, we will share the class, who has the highest attendance. This week, we want to celebrate 6M, who achieved 96.7%. A huge well done and keep up the excellent work; it has a great impact on learning and progress. At the end of the half term, the class with the highest attendance will receive a special reward.
