Family Fridays
It is always lovely having so many parents in for family Friday. Parents are reminded not to use their mobile phones whilst in the classrooms. You will be asked to put them away if they are out. Thank you for your support.
On Friday 10th November, we would like to invite in all parents from Nursery to year 6. This week parents from reception to year 3 had the opportunity to experience what playtimes are like at Morningside. We would love to share this experience with parents with children in year 4 to 6. All parents should go into the classrooms as usual with their children. At 9am, we will invite parents from year 4 to 6 to come out into the playground and explore what is on offer.
Reading Champions
The Reading Champions were invited to Hackney Town Hall where they had the opportunity to meet other representatives from across the borough and were given their own reading packs to begin their reading project at Morningside. The reading champions have decided to reward classes who are consistently engaging with home reading. This means classes who are reading daily and writing in their home readers will be rewarded with new books for their reading area. You can help your child by listening to them read every night and helping them fill in their diary and bring it to school daily. They will be sharing lots of reading initiatives throughout the year.
Parents Evening
Monday 6th November is parents evening from 3.30 – 8pm. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your child’s class teacher, hear and see what your child has been learning in class and discuss your child’s next steps. You will need to book a time slot to meet your child’s teacher. This needs to be done using the Arbor app. If you are having any difficulties doing this please speak to the office staff.
School Council
This year the school council are working on a number of projects alongside their role as the voice of the pupils. They have decided that we will be supporting two charities this year, Shelter and St Joseph’s Hospice; they will be organising fundraising events in support of these. They will also be running an anti-littering campaign to improve our local neighbourhood. They hold a class meeting fortnightly and report on the views of the pupils on aspects of school life such as lunches and the playground.
Sustainability Squad
The Sustainability Squad is a group focused on the school’s environmental impact. They have undertaken a ‘green’ audit of the school and have decided to focus on the use of electricity. Look out for their ‘Switch Off’ campaign. They wish to encourage everyone to switch off lights and computers which they are not using in order to prevent global warming. The Squad will be running awareness events and assemblies to promote their message. They will also be running another Eco-Swap event soon.

We have 10 helmet, character head and bottle holder sets to give away in the raffle, each worth £40.
Holidays during term time
At Morningside, we believe that for children to achieve their full potential they need to attend regularly and punctually. Children should be at school, on time, every day the school is open, unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.
Please note that we do not authorise holidays in term time under any circumstances. Parents & carers need to ensure that they do not book holidays or flights before term ends or after term has begun. In recent years we have seen the number of requests for time out of school to visit seriously sick elderly relatives rise massively in the last weeks of July and the first weeks of September. It is impossible for us to distinguish between a true family crisis and those seeking cheaper flights.
If you book holidays during term time you risk being fined.
School Uniform expectations
All children are expected to come to school in either our school uniform or school PE kit. Children are expected to wear a navy jumper or cardigan, yellow t-shirt and black, navy or grey trousers or skirt.
PE kit, a white t-shirt and navy/black bottoms, must be worn on PE days. Now that it is colder children should wear their school jumper/cardigan on top of their PE kit.
Please make sure all items of clothing are labelled with your child’s name.
Jewellery
Parents/Carers are reminded that children should not wear any jewellery to school. If your child has pierced ears, small studs may be worn.
Nail polish
No child should wear nail varnish in school. If you have attended an event and your child has worn nail varnish, this should be removed before they come back to school.
Fleeces and jumpers
There have been increasingly more children wearing bright coloured jumpers to school. You are reminded that navy jumpers only should be worn.
Celebration assemblies
Every Friday we have a celebration assembly for the children in year 1 to 6. Each week teachers choose a star writer, reader, mathematician, timetable champion and a Star of the week.

Attendance Class of The Week
Each week, we will share the class, who has the highest attendance. This week, we want to celebrate 3S, who achieved 100%. A huge well done and keep up the excellent work; it has a great impact on learning and progress. At the end of the half term, the class with the highest attendance will receive a special reward.
