This week has been even busier than usual at Morningside, with children, staff and families making the most of the many opportunities on offer.
On Monday, our assembly marked Refugee Week and linked closely to our school value of Self-Belief. We shared the beautiful book Wisp, which tells the story of a young refugee boy finding hope and comfort through memories of home. The children reflected thoughtfully on themes of belonging, kindness, resilience and courage, and considered how self-belief can help us overcome challenges and adapt to new situations.
One of the highlights of the week was our Science Fair on Wednesday. It was wonderful to see children sharing their investigations and explaining their scientific thinking to families and visitors. From forces and magnets to materials, Earth and Space and states of matter, the children spoke with real confidence and enthusiasm about their learning. A huge thank you to all the families who came along to support the event, and thank you to Jack for organising it. Thank you also to everyone who donated cakes, bought treats or helped at our PTA bake sale. As always, your support helps make these events such a success.
Our Sports Days have taken place both at London Fields and here in school, and it has been fantastic to see so many parents and carers coming along to cheer the children on. Thank you for your support. The children demonstrated great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship, and we were incredibly proud of the way they encouraged one another and celebrated each other’s successes. We’d also like to thank, Carleisha and all the other staff members who made it happen!
We were also delighted to welcome Gill Brady, Chair of our Local Advisory Board, who spent time talking to children about their learning and our work on sustainability. She was extremely impressed by the children’s enthusiasm, confidence and the depth of knowledge they demonstrated across a range of subjects.
Children in Years 4 and 5 have enjoyed beekeeping workshops in our school garden, learning about the important role bees play in our ecosystem and getting a closer look at life inside a hive. The sessions sparked lots of curiosity and excitement and linked brilliantly to our work on sustainability and the natural world.
Throughout all of this, children in Years 1 to 5 have been completing their end-of-year assessments. We have been incredibly impressed by the knowledge, resilience and maturity they have shown. It has been wonderful to see children confidently applying what they have learned and demonstrating just how much progress they have made this year.
Looking ahead to next week, the weather forecast suggests that temperatures will be very high. Please help us to keep children safe and comfortable by ensuring they:

As part of our OPaL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme, we are continuing to develop our playground to give children richer, more creative and more adventurous play opportunities.
We have created an Amazon Wishlist with items that would really enhance our play offer. If you would like to support, you can do so by purchasing an item from the list and having it sent directly to school.
There is absolutely no expectation to contribute, but we are very grateful for any support. These small additions make a big difference to children’s play experiences every day.
